This morning we hosted out October ‘Young Birders’ event, this month was an ID themed walk to the Holes Bay NW area. For late autumn/early winter, the range of species was great with highlights including 5 Spoonbill, 1 Cattle Egret, 50 Avocet and a good range of wildfowl. Up the Frome Valley near West Holme Manor there were 42 Cattle Egret and 6 more on Wareham Common. A Goosander ‘flock’ is a rare site in Poole Harbour but there were 5 ‘redheads’ in Lytchett Bay this morning before heading off towards the Wareham Channel. Up to 4 different White-tailed Eagles were seen between Middlebere and the Wareham Channel and a Glossy Ibis was feeding next to the Wareham bypass down below Purbeck Sports Centre.
