Amazingly, there were some hardy enough souls who were still keen to head out on to the water today, despite the strong winds. The rewards were worth it though with female White-tailed Eagle G466 hunting a Shelduck in the Wareham Channel this morning and still plenty of Osprey activity during this mornings and this afternoons boat trips. There were up to 24 Spoonbill on the Brownsea Lagoon along with c30 Avocet, c50 Ringed Plover, 5 Greenshank, 10 Common Sandpiper (Brownsea north shore) and 150 Dunlin. This afternoon a Pied Flycatcher was logged at RSPB Arne. Having thought she may have left yesterday, female Osprey CJ7 made an appearance on the nest this afternoon, delivering a fish to the chicks. There seems to be another bit of unsettled weather over the next couple of days, but next week is beginning to look very interesting from an autumn migrants perspective as another easterly airflow begins to set in.
