Really nice spring record of a female Hawfinch above the RSPB Arne Car Park this morning. It’s a bit late for a passage migrant so could this be a local breeder somewhere close by? There’s been very few breeding records for Hawfinch in South Dorset in the last couple of decades so worth keeping an eye out to see if it sticks around. Also at Arne, 1 Osprey was over both Arne Hill and Middlebere and 1 White-tailed Eagle cruised over the reserve this morning. 2 Pintail were still in Holes Bay. 1 Reed Warbler has been back singing at Hatch Pond for the last 2 days now.
Another glorious, sunny day and plenty of birds about. Red kites have taken advantage of the developing thermals…
