Harbour Update – 30/10/26

Biggest push of Woodpigeons so far this morning with 17,982 counted flying over Evening Hill heading south west on migration between 7-9am. The first Water Pipit of the season was colour ringed at Lytchett Fields this morning by Stour Ringing Group. Hopefully the first of many, to learn more about this rare winter visitor. Keep an eye out for colour rings on Water and Rock Pipit. 1 Curlew Sandpiper was in the Middlebere Channel and c100 Fieldfare were being chased by 2 Merlin. At Swineham there were 1 Ruff, 3 Spotted Redshank, 68 Lapwing, 5 Black-tailed Godwit and 2 Green Sandpiper on the lower Piddle valley floods. There were also 2 White-tailed Eagle and 1 Great White Egret active in the area. A first winter Little Gull was at South Haven first thing.

With continuing arrival of more winter birds, our Winter Safari Cruises begin this Sunday with back-to-back trips morning and afternoon. Book here.
