As we give way to summer and see spring depart we have to say it’s been a mixed spring for everyone. Breeding success seems uncertain for many species and spring migration was rather limited due to the cold then wet weather. But on the plus side, we now have an (establishing) pair of Osprey in the harbour that look to be making Poole Harbour home which is just fantastic. There should still be plenty to focus on as lazy summer days become the norm. And with 20 degree plus temperatures forecast we’re hopefully now making up for lost time.
More Red Kites were taking advantage of the fine weather today with more individuals seen over Poole Town, Studland and Arne. Today was the first day that no Osprey were viewed on the webcam, although both CJ7 and 022 were present and active around the nest site, plus 022 was also seen to land on another harbour platform mid-morning. The heathlands are now coming alive with emerging dragonflies plus Dartford Warbler, Stonechat and Meadow Pipit are all really vocal again now that the weather has improved dramatically. In Poole the Peregrines have been really active between the Barclays building and Asda, returning regularly to the Barclays balcony. Are they going to produce a little surprise over the next few weeks?
