Harbour Update – posted 27/07/21

Its always nice to secure the first Wood Sandpiper of the autumn early on. Although they’ve now become a regular feature of autumn passage in recent years, they can sometimes be a bit sparse with Lytchett Fields almost exclusively hosting most records. The first of the season was indeed at…Lytchett Fields and was joined by 103 Redshank, 10 Greenshank, 6 Green Sandpiper, 30+ Black-tailed Godwit, 60+ Lapwing, 3 Whimbrel, 1 Curlew, 2 Snipe and 1 Marsh Harrier. A Roseate Tern was seen from the Brownsea Island ferry near the harbour mouth and the 2 adult Curlew Sandpiper were once again on the Brownsea Lagoon with 2 Spoonbill. There were another 2 Spoonbill in Middlebere and the Osprey pair were seen out over the Wareham Channel. In the PCW Drain there was a Garden Warbler, 2 Willow Warbler and 4 Blackcap.
