Harbour Update – posted 25/01/19

The adult male Black Redstart was showing better today and is now attracting quite a lot of attention. A school bird boat out around the harbour saw 21 Spoonbill on Shipstal and 2 Great Northern Diver (1 South Deep and 1 off Baiter). At Norden sewage works 10+ Chiffchaff  were on the filter beds and a couple were singing again.  The Common Crane (as recent patterns of behaviour predicted) was seen at sawn flying over Hartland and then again at dusk where a nice crowd of people gathered at dusk to watch it fly over towards Middlebere. A ringtail Hen Harrier was at Slepe Heath with 1 merlin near there too, 3 Marsh Harrier were in the mouth of the Frome.  Middlebere is still holding lots of Avocet, Lapwing and Black-tailed Godwit. Off Branksome 4 Red-throated Diver were settled with a Great Northern Diver. A Little Owl was heard calling behind Maranoa Farm, near Middlebere.
