The highlight of the sightings today was the Pectoral Sandpiper being visible from Swineham again this AM, showing well on the Stilt Pool, but was unfortunately not seen this afternoon. Also at Swineham were 2 Yellow-Legged Gulls, 2 Cattle Egret, Yellow Wagtail, 7 Tufted Duck, 6 Wigeon, 9 Gadwall, 1 Marsh Harrier and 2 Ospreys. There were several reports of other hunting Ospreys today, with 3 over Lytchett Fields this morning and a further 2 in the Middlebere Channel. With a number of nests having a late start to the breeding season this year, it may be that we continue to see high numbers of Ospreys into October. Also at Lytchett Fields today was a single Whinchat, 12 Greenshank, 1 Spotted Redshank and 1 Ringed Plover. Holes Bay this morning produced a count of 180 Black-tailed Godwit, 1 Gadwall, 164 Wigeon, 49 Teal, 1 Shoveler, 10 Curlew, 47 Redshank and 1 Dunlin. In Brands Bay there was a female type Garganey found which is a great Brands Bay record.
With the number of winter waders and waterfowl building up, we will be releasing the dates for our free winter events soon. We currently have our full winter boat schedule, along with the Sunnyside Ringing Demos and winter ID Courses available to book online: https://www.birdsofpooleharbourbookings.co.uk/
