Harbour Update – posted 12/08/21

Things are really hotting up now as we reach the mid-August point. The low drizzle and cloud hampered our first public Osprey watch at Ham Common viewpoint a tad, but one was seen catching a fish around 9am and seen heading west. Wader numbers at Lytchett fields are really building nicely with the Curlew Sandpiper still there along with 1 Knot, 9 Dunlin, 339 Black-tailed Godwit, 17 Greenshank, 127 Redshank, 3 Common Sandpiper, 3 Green Sandpiper and 2 Whimbrel with a Marsh Harrier there too. Up on Hartland 2 Wheatear were still present and along the Middlebere track there were 5+ Willow Warbler, 2 Common Whitethroat and 3 Blackcap. Out in the Wareham Channel an Osprey was seen about 3pm over Giggers Island and was seen off by 2 Marsh Harrier and an early Merlin was seen dashing across Hartland.
