Another busy day today with big numbers of birds logged in Holes Bay NE and NW with 1334 Black-tailed Godwit, 1058 Wigeon, 58 Shoveler, 36 Pintail and 754 Dunlin, which for an urban site is just amazing! Also, in the PCW Drain the Kingfisher was seen again along with 3 Common Chiffchaff, 2 Bullfinch and 1 Cetti’s Warbler. At Sandbanks a Purple Sandpiper was seen again on one of the rock groynes and 2 Great Northern Diver were out in Whitley Lake. At Lytchett Fields/Bay highlights included a colour-ringed Water Pipit which was originally ringed on site six weeks ago but hadn’t been seen since until today! Also there 1 Jack Snipe, 1 Cattle Egret, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Merlin, 4 Spoonbill, 1 Woodcock and 2 Green Sandpiper. Off Jerry’s Point there were 5 Great Northern Diver, 1 Slavonian Grebe, 3 Black-necked Grebe, 2 Long-tailed Duck, 4 Scaup, 2 Common Scoter and 19 Goldeneye with a Great White Egret on Furzey Island. Up at old Harry the Arable field had 11 Yellowhammer, 1 Brambling, 2 Skylark and 1 Bullfinch. On the Holme Lane GP a male Pochard was settled and 12 Egyptian Geese were in the Frome Valley. The male Merlin came onto its favoured post at Middlebere this evening. Out in Poole Bay there was still some passage with 1 Red-throated Diver, 2 Great Northern Diver (settled), 3 Common Scoter, 40+ Razorbill, 3 Guillemot, 180+ Gannet and a handful of Kittiwake.
