Another busy day today with big numbers of birds logged in Holes Bay NE and NW with 1334 Black-tailed Godwit, 1058 Wigeon, 58 Shoveler, 36 Pintail and 754 Dunlin, which for an urban site is just amazing! At Sandbanks a Purple Sandpiper was seen again on one of the rock groynes and 2 Great Northern Diver were out in Whitley Lake. At Lytchett Fields/Bay highlights included a colour-ringed Water Pipit which was originally ringed on site six weeks ago but hadn’t been seen since until today! Also there 1 Jack Snipe, 1 Cattle Egret, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Merlin, 4 Spoonbill, 1 Woodcock and 2 Green Sandpiper. Off Jerry’s Point there were 5 Great Northern Diver, 1 Slavonian Grebe, 3 Black-necked Grebe, 2 Long-tailed Duck, 4 Scaup, 2 Common Scoter and 19 Goldeneye with a Great White Egret on Furzey Island. The male Merlin came onto its favoured post at Middlebere this evening.
