Harbour Update – 20/12/25

With a cold spell due to hit from mid-week, is there a chance we’ll see a (small?) new arrival of birds? It doesn’t look like a major cold spell, but it is the first set of NE winds we’ve had for several months, so just a few Fieldfare and Redwing would be nice!

This morning a Bittern flew along the River Frome towards Swineham Point and the Glossy Ibis flock (10 of them) were in the wet paddocks feeding at Swineham. At Wareham Common 63 Cattle Egret were feeding and 2 Red Kite drifted over Lytchett Bay. The 2 Purple Sandpiper were on the rocky groynes again off Shore Road Sandbanks. This morning 5 Great Northern Diver and 1 Black-throated Diver flew into the harbour, female White-tailed Eagle G466 was in the Wareham Channel this morning.
