As is typical for mid-July, our Osprey nest seems to get emptier and emptier by the day and today our third out of four Osprey chicks fledged with 6T8 leaving the nest for the first time this morning. Although they’re fledging they’ll continue to be seen around the nest site for several more weeks yet with a likely departure later in August. There were more arrivals today in the shape of Eurasian Teal returning to traditional wintering sites with 77 in Brands Bay and 29 in Holes Bay. Lytchett Bay saw good numbers of waders too with 46 Redshank , 32 Lapwing, 10 Greenshank , 7 Green Sandpiper, 5 Common Sandpiper, 1 Spotted Redshank, 1 Whimbrel and 1 juvenile Spoonbill, plus there was a juvenile Peregrine mobbed by 2 Common Tern over the bay. At Swineham there were 4 Little Ringed Plover, 6 Yellow Wagtail, 13 Cattle Egret and 1 Great White Egret.
