With the cold northerly airflow really kicking in today, it was no surprise there were more winter thrush about with Fieldfare and Redwing passing over this morning. The first Great Northern Divers of the winter were off Jerry’s Point with 3 there today, plus 1 Black-necked Grebe and 27 Red-breasted Merganser, plus there were 3 more Black-necked Grebe off Middle Beach, Studland along with 6 Common Scoter and another Great Northern Diver. A Cattle Egret and White-tailed Eagle flew over the Wareham by pass this morning and there were 27 on Wareham Common this evening along with 1 Merlin. The Brownsea Lagoon had 8 Spoonbill and this evening a Pochard was found on Hatch Pond. Just outside the harbour area a Wheatear was found on private land at the waterworks in Wallisdown which was presumed to be a Northern Wheatear.
