With yesterdays strong ENE wind easing, it allowed for a proper survey/assessment of the harbour from this afternoons low tide cruise with plenty on show. Highlights included a Red-throated Diver off Ham Common, 9 Common Scoter off Jerry’s Point with 2 more in central harbour and 1 in the Wareham Channel. Goldeneye numbers are up to 6, spread between South Deep (Jerry’s Point), central harbour and 1 in the Wareham Channel. There’s been a significant Red-breasted Merganser arrival with c80 now around the SE of the harbour. There were 7 Spoonbill off Green Island and 2 in the Wareham Channel. The 2 Eider were still off Poole Quay, half way between the quay and Brownsea and 1 Great Northern Diver flew into the harbour this morning. At Swineham 4 Marsh Harrier were floating about, 1 White-tailed Eagle was sat on Fitzworth and another flew south over Brands Bay. A lone Great White Egret was in Brands Bay.
A true wintery vibe today, with evidence that the strong NE breeze and overcast sky’s delivered birds both…
