Harbour Update – 02/11/26

The cold NE wind bedded in some more, and even though a large block of low cloud was settled in the west, a reasonable Wood Pigeon pulse got going at dawn with 25,948 passing over Carey/Wareham before 8am. An odd (but great) record of a Yellowhammer was at Hatch Pond but sadly there was no sign of yesterdays Eider off Baiter with checks at dawn and dusk made. The Glossy Ibis that have been frequenting the Wareham Channel all autumn have now changed feeding sites back to Wareham Common which is the same behaviour of last years group, possibly suggesting these (or at least some) are returning over-wintering birds. Around Middlebere there were up to 200 Fieldfare, 17 Spoonbill were on Long Island a Golden Plover was in Lytchett Bay and c10 Cattle Egret were on Wareham Common.
