It wouldn’t be unfair to think that today would produce diddly squat, but persistence (and a bit of madness) paid off with our low-tide cruise still heading out mid-afternoon. Rain hampered the first part, but it soon cleared and a calmness prevailed with decent birds still out and about. Highlights included one of the White-tailed Eagle distantly in the Wareham Channel along with 2-3 Marsh Harrier, 1 Spoonbill feeding just off the boat, also 1 Guillemot off Poole Quay, c200 dark-bellied Brent Geese, c30 Great Crested Grebe, c200 Avocet on Brownsea, c300 Black-tailed Godwit, c30 Redshank, c100 Curlew, 2 Common Seal and 1 Fox. Today also saw the first Little Ringed Plover of the spring appear at Lytchett Fields where there was also 1 Spotted Redshank, 4 Greenshank and 2 Green Sandpiper. There were 2 Sand Martin over the Piddle Valley and Common Chiffchaff are now very evident across the harbour.
