This afternoon saw the Poole harbour WeBS count take place, and although no new species were logged for the year, there seems to be good numbers back already of regular over-wintering species. Redshank, Curlew, Black-tailed Godwit, Avocet and Oystercatcher were all out in force. There were 3 Glossy Ibis logged in the Wareham Channel again, the main bulk of Spoonbill (75) were off Fitzworth, near Ower Bay, a Spotted Redshank was in Holes Bay north, a male Common Scoter was in Brands Bay, there were at least 2 Osprey still, including juvenile female 2B9 from Kielder Forest who still remains….can she hang on into October? There were up to 10 Cattle Egret on Wareham Common, a great Greenshank flock of 16 were gathered in Middlebere, 2 Grasshopper Warbler were ringed at Carey Secret Garden along with a putative Siberian Chiffchaff and a Barn Owl.
