The hard to track down Glossy Ibis flock were tracked down today! We know there’s been a roving flock moving around the west of the harbour for several weeks now as we keep seeing them from our boat trips on the low tide out in the Wareham Channel, however there have been almost no reports of them feeding ‘on dry land’ during the high tides. That was until this morning when a flock of 12 were found feeding in fields opposite Ridge, near Arne. Interestingly, none of the 12 seemed to be colour-ringed, where as at least one of the flock in the Wareham Channel a few weeks ago was, so it’s likely there’s actually a few more than 12 about, and possibly some smaller sub-groups lurking in the river valleys somewhere? Further up the Frome Valley, a flock of 47 Cattle Egret were feeding around the Holmebridge area. Holes Bay NE logged an impressive 21 Spoonbill, which is odd for them to choose to feed here during such a mild period as they often choose to only feed here during really cold snaps. Female White-tailed Eagle G466 was in Brands Bay this afternoon.
