Harbour Update – posted 02/07/24

Lots of signs of successful breeding today with plenty of recently fledged birds seen all round the harbour. The first juvenile Mediteranean Gull was seen in Lytchett Bay today along with 3 Greenshank, 39 Redshank and 1 White-tailed Eagle. 4, presumably migrant, Little Ringed Plover were at Stilt Pools Swineham which included 2 juvenile birds. There was also 1 adult Yellow-legged Gull and 1 Great White Egret in the Piddle Valley, showing that lots of post-breeding movement has already started. 3 Great White Egret, 2 Marsh Harrier and c125 Black-tailed Godwit were logged over the Wareham Channel. This evening 2 Osprey were in the Middlebere Channel along with, 2 Spoonbill, 1 Whimbrel, 1 Greenshank and 1 Yellow-legged Gull.
