Things were way calmer today, so much so some migration managed to get started again with a dawn movement of Chaffinch, Siskin and Goldfinches over many parts of the harbour and many harbour hedgerows were full on Common Chiffchaffs again. This morning there were up to 5 different White-tailed Eagles moving about the south and west of the harbour with 3 circling up above Swineham about 10:30am. This morning 9+ Marsh Harrier came out of the west harbour roost, a Goshawk bombed through Middlebere where there were also 8 Curlew Sandpiper, 4 Spotted Redshank and 2 Great White Egret. This evening 15 Cattle Egret flew down the Frome Valley towards RSPB Arne to roost, where a Glossy Ibis lifted off Arne Moors to join them. From our Low-tide cruise this afternoon the Forster’s Tern was seen briefly in the Wareham Channel, 20+ Spoonbill were in the Wareham Channel and 100+ were flushed off the Brownsea Lagoon this morning by several Kite Surfers. At Swineham on the Stilt Pools there were 2 Ruff and 3 Green Sandpiper. A Little Stint was on Lytchett Fields.
Torrential rain in the harbour, but that didn’t put us off from our Winter Safari Cruise this morning….
