School Birdboats take flight.......

As we know Poole Harbour is a great place for birds live and for children to explore, so why not try and combine the two?

A joint venture between the local Poole RSPB group and publishing company The Sound Approach has been underway for several years now, where local schools in the Poole, Bournemouth and Purbeck area are given the opportunity to explore and learn all about the rich bio-diversity of Poole Harbour. Although many of the children who attend these schools live within a stone's throw of Poole Harbour, not many of them have actually been lucky enough to witness the sun illuminate the water with their own eyes. The trips, which last about two hours take the children and their teachers on a magical mystery tour where they aim to see as many species of bird as possible, whilst taking in the stunning scenery and tranquil environment.

The boat trips, which started back in September and run through to the end of February next year have already given the children great views of Osprey, up to 16 Spoonbill, hundreds of Avocet and not forgetting the Shipstal Seal.

Tim Tatham from Talbot Combined School said "our children gained a huge amount from the trip and did some fantastic writing when they were back at school, please put us down for next year!"
