The courses

Winter Waders of Poole Harbour ID Course – December 12th & 15th 2018

Poole Harbour in winter is a magnet for thousands of waders of numerous different species which can often provide a bit of a headache to any birder. The characteristic long (or short) legs, long (or short) bills and dull plumage of our winter waders will be expertly simplified into key features that will enable you to competently identify the most ambiguous waders to species level. Physical feature identification will be complemented with characteristic behaviours and bird calls, so you have a full arsenal of techniques to be a confident winter wader watcher! And to ensure you’re prepared on your bird watching ventures, we will give you the inside info on where to find different wading species and the best times of winter to spot them. This two-part course will be split over a theory and practical learning session, allowing you to put into practice your new birding skills.

This course is suitable for beginners. This course will cover rough ground and involve walking some distance.
